‘Ready or not’: care leavers’ views of preparing to leave care

This report brings out the voices of the care leavers and serves as a reminder about what is particularly important to their experience of leaving care. Some simple things that could make a huge difference to care leavers’ experiences include:

  • telling care leavers about the available support
  • helping them to stay in touch with important people
  • working with them to ensure that they have the skills they need before moving on

A timely reminder of the simple things Independent reviewing officers and social workers can, should, be doing in order to make a positive difference.
