The Children’s Commissioner for England, Rachel de Souza, has published the first half of her review into family life, describing strong family support as a ‘protective power’ for children to shield them against adversity. Full recommendations will come in the second half of the review, the first half aims to produce an up to date picture of family life, to examine challenges to family life and look at what services are available and the characteristics families would like them to have. Challenges identified by families included:
- financial pressures and the cost of living
- childcare, particularly during the holidays
- parental conflict
- unstable accommodation and homelessness
