The Black Care Experience Conference saw the launch of the Black Care Experience Charter, a declaration of support and commitment from all the workforces involved in children’s social care statutory and voluntary services. The charter aims to improve the care, outcomes and life chances of Black children and young people, and keep them connected to their culture, identity and heritage as they journey through the care system. It includes commitments to:

  • actively address systemic racial inequalities and discrimination on every level across departments and services
  • work alongside services that are culturally specific and competent to work with the Black Community
  • collate real time data on both the care journey and outcomes of the Black child and young person
