Why Virtual Schools Should Support Adopted Children
An interesting blog piece written from the perspective of anĀ adoptive parent, Gareth Marr.
āAdopted children are likely to be the most traumatised children in the country. They have been adopted because they cannot go back to their birth family. Their life and sanity is so threatened that they have to be totally severed from their previous existence. Many Children in Care will go back to their birth families. Those with Special Guardianship Orders or Child Arrangement Orders can have contact with their birth family. Their identity, who they are, where they come from, has not been severed and they have not been placed with strangers.āĀ
This quote came from my presentation to a seminarĀ my Local Authority held in June on extending the support of our Virtual School to adopted and other vulnerable children. You can see the programme here:Ā Agenda-DCS seminar programmeĀ It caused a few gasps amongst the audience of children care professionals and Virtual School staff. Of course they will haveā¦

Kent Child Care Conference 12th October
A quick plug for Kentās Child Care Conference ā theyāve been running one of the best Community Care Conferences around for a number of years now, and they are doing one on Children Act this year.Ā It is open to lawyers, social workers and Guardians.Ā It has a really great line up ā Isabelle Trowler, Tina Cook QC, Lorna Meyer QC,Ā Mrs Justice Theis and the excellent and inspiring Lucy Reed from Pink Tape.Ā The Riaz and beyond talk is particularly tempting, given just how much of a profile CSE now has and just how hard a problem it can be to solve.Ā And the āNo Recourse to public fundsā session in the afternoon is becoming even more important with the likely shift in Government policy about Syria and the numbers of people who will be coming into the UK.
I think that you can email Lauren.McCann@kent.gov.ukĀ about tickets ifā¦
