The Case for Change

This Case for Change by the independent review of children’s social care sets out the urgent need for a new approach to children’s social care in England. A simplified version of the case for change, which is suitable for both children and adults, and summarises the key themes within the report, can be downloaded: HERE

The Case for Change is the Review’s early thinking about what needs to change in the children’s social care system.

As the review moves into its next phase the team will explore in more depth the issues highlighted in their case for change document.

The Social Care Review website is the ‘go to’ place for information about the review and how to get involved. Evidence received and the findings of their engagement and participation work can be found via their website: HERE.

There are a number of ways you can contribute to the review:

You can also contribute individually via this online form which will remain open until 13th August 2021.

NIROMP’s response

Sharon Martin, NIROMP chair’s initial response to the case for change:

“NIROMP contributed evidence to the Care Review. We welcome the publication of the initial case for change and we recognise much set out within the initial analysis. The current system is not working well enough for children, families and communities. More help is needed.

“The case for change is an important starting point but the real challenge is coming up with solutions and a plan to address problems across the whole system.

“This is an important opportunity to consider wholesale reform needed to improve the lives of children, families and communities.”

NIROMP’s submission of evidence to the review is contained on our website. IROs and their managers are encouraged to get involved with our regular network meetings and community of practice sessions. IROs and IRO Managers who are not already linked can make an enquiry with us: HERE.
