Welcoming Statement by Debbie Currie, Assistant Director, Child Protection, Performance & Partnership:
‘I’d like to welcome you to this careers hub for the Child Protection Review and Independent Reviewing Officer service.
Here at Birmingham City Council, we’ve made all kinds of changes over the last 18 months to what we do and how we do it… however there is still more to do and if you are up for a challenge that is both exciting and rewarding your just the person we are looking for!
We are working hard to transform the service to ensure the focus is on meeting the needs of children and their families with Child Protection Chairs and Independent Reviewing Officers being strong advocates for improving the lives of children in the city. The service is split into two to enable chairs to be able to give their full attention to the children they are working with and to ensure plans are the best they can be.
In addition, we have a more stable workforce who are helping alongside the social work teams to ensure children’s needs are safeguarded and looked after children have plans that will help them rebuild their lives affording the stability and support they require to do this.
We recognise that our staff also need support to do a good job therefore you will have a caseload which is manageable, have monthly supervision and access to regular learning and development opportunities to ensure that you are aware of the most current policy and practice to influence planning for children.
